The National leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all its candidates across the country to immediately engage their constituents and commence campaign activities in line with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The directive, which comes as campaigns for the 2027 presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly elections officially commence, was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq.
The party also disclosed that it would soon unveil and inaugurate its various campaign committees ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, all NDC candidates have been instructed to begin consultations, sensitisation programmes and grassroots engagements in their respective constituencies while working closely with party stakeholders at all levels.
“In keeping with the Election Timetable as released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the campaigns for the 2027 general elections have officially commenced.
“To this effect, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all its candidates nationwide, especially those for the presidential and National Assembly positions, to immediately begin local consultations and engagements with their constituents, and immediately roll out their campaigns,” the statement said.
The party further directed candidates for presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly positions to liaise with party structures from the national level down to the wards to effectively drive the party’s message to the grassroots.
“To all candidates, we are directing that they begin their familiarisation, sensitisation and consultations. Similarly, local campaign events can now continue.
“The party will soon release the composition of its campaign organs, which will be announced and inaugurated on a date to be announced.
“We direct all candidates across the country to begin their campaigns. State chapters, local government chapters and down to the wards should organise and draw up itineraries for their own local campaigns,” the statement added.
The NDC stressed that all campaign activities must be issue-based and conducted peacefully, warning its members and supporters against violence, hate speech and the use of foul language.
“In keeping with the ideology of the NDC, the party reiterates that all campaigns must be issue-based and devoid of violence and foul language. The NDC has no room for violence,” the party said.
The opposition party also used the opportunity to clarify issues surrounding its official logo, explaining that a modified version had been developed in consultation with INEC and relevant stakeholders.
According to the statement, although the party has completed consultations with the electoral commission regarding the logo modification, some administrative processes are yet to be concluded before the new logo can be formally adopted.
“On the issue of the appropriate logo of the NDC, the party would want to make the following clarification: The NDC, in consultation with INEC, has also modified our logo and notified INEC appropriately at a meeting attended by officials of the commission.
“For some reason, however, there have been some administrative details which we are working round the clock to resolve before the existing logo would be replaced with the modified version.
“Until then, we enjoin all our candidates and members to continue to use the old logo, which is also the two-finger victory sign, for campaign purposes pending the conclusion of all engagements and arrangements with INEC on the replacement.”
The party expressed confidence in its readiness for the 2027 elections, urging its candidates to take the campaign message directly to the people and present practical solutions to the nation’s challenges.
NDC is expected to formally inaugurate its national campaign structure in the coming weeks as political parties intensify preparations for next year’s general elections.
